Today we released 4 more marmots from the conservation breeding program, and translocated another 9 marmots from Mount Washington to Strathcona Provincial Park.

In total this year, we released 66 marmots from the breeding program, and translocated 9, for a total 75 marmots moved to new homes in the wild! Right now, our field teams are observing the most recent releases as they get established in the wild. Even with all the marmots out, there’s still lots of work to do this year. We will be following up on previous releases, and then conducting habitat restoration work in the fall. At the same time, there are still lots of marmots to care for at the Tony Barrett Mount Washington Marmot Recovery Centre – including next year’s release candidates!
