Last week, Kevin and our field team of Geric, Jakob, Jessie, Samara, Shayn, and Tannin installed 28 feeders for Vancouver Island Marmots at 18 colonies.
This food helps marmots recover body weight lost during hibernation quickly, and that helps female marmots have more pups, which they are giving birth too right now!
Those pups are crucial part of recovering this critically endangered species from near extinction. Of course, Vancouver Island marmots live in remote and challenging habitat. Just getting 20kg bags of biscuits, plus feeders and gear to the marmots is a challenge!
